How to create an Enchanted Spring Wedding theme?
Many couples love the idea of a garden ceremony or outdoor wedding, but fear the unpredictability of the British weather. When Kiera Goymour and recommended supplier, Charlotte Staff Flowers got together they were determined to show how a traditional marquee space could be turned into an outdoor-inspired wooded wonderland.
THE INSPIRATION
“We considered what was currently popular in weddings; the simplicity of natural styling, lots of foliage and green colour schemes, and decided to turn it on its head!” explains Kiera, Owner and Wedding Planner at Applewood Hall.
“I have always loved Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies. The magical illustrations remind me of Spring. I thought an enchanted woodland style would be fun with the added challenge of bringing it to life indoors to show UK couples they can still have that outdoorsy feel.”
So the brief was set; to create an Enchanted Spring Wedding that a Flower Fairy would be proud of! Something that embraces the colours of the season that can be recreated inside.
Charlotte couldn’t wait to get started, “Spring is such a beautiful time of year, it’s amazing to see the first bloom after a long winter. Primrose, cowslip, crocus and violet immediately came to mind, so we decided on a colour theme of delicate purples and soft yellows.”
“Styled shoots are an amazing opportunity to get creative, however Kiera and I agreed that we wanted the finished look to be something that a couple planning their wedding could also re-create themselves,” added Charlotte.
We pulled together a brilliant creative team of Norfolk wedding suppliers to help us design a playful, but relatable, interpretation of a woodland theme.
We asked Richard Jarmy to shoot our styled set-up. He is one of our regular wedding photographers at Applewood Hall and his energy is infectious! We didn’t want to miss any of the detail, from fairy doors to miniature bird cages, so a second-shooter was a must. The perfect opportunity for Laura Anne to join the team too.
THE VENUE
Set in the Norfolk countryside, the shoot was held at the award-winning, family run Applewood Hall. Its stylish ceremony room and beautiful blank canvas marquee reception space provided the stunning backdrop for an enchantingly different bridal shoot. And with lots of green outside space that had cherry blossom in bloom, we managed to capture a few real outside shots too.
THE DETAIL
Starting with the ceremony space, we wanted to give a nod to the popular wedding arch. Charlotte worked her magic! She dressed a copper frame with twisted willow, foliage and trailing arrangements bursting with seasonal flowers to create a beautiful ceremony backdrop. Adding copper fairy lights, an assortment of coloured medicine bottles with their own dainty sprigs and pale yellow sashes to accent the aisle chairs bought it all together.
To recreate the feeling of being outdoors within the reception space, two impressively tall 3.2m canopy trees framed the top table. We added ribbon in purple and yellow hues, glass terrariums with tealights and miniature bird cages to give the trees a more whimsical feel. At the base, Charlotte created a beautiful crown of twisted willow, pale purple clematis, craspedia, gerbera partini sienna, lilac hydrangea, pale roses and mimosa to compliment the top table runner.
Festoon lighting installed by Sam Race Venue Decoration was draped above the tables. Their bright glow gave an outdoorsy feel of dappled sunlight through the trees.
The Banqueting Hire Service provided table settings of gold beaded charger plates and gold cutlery set against pale yellow napkins and purple tumblers to add a pop of colour.
Menu cards and place names, designed by MelMade, incorporated our Spring florals and colour palette. A hexagon shaped welcome sign, table numbers sat in miniature log slices and a table plan suspended from a branch styled with ribbons and fresh blooms completed the look.
B’s Bakes provided an elegant three-tier fondant wedding cake, which was set upon a vintage dresser. Its simplicity allowed the natural elements of twisted willow, craspedia and mimosa to really take centre stage.
